From this year's theme, it was
obvious that the sixth edition of the Lagos Architects Forum (LAF), an annual
event organised by the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of
Architects was serious business! From the ease of registration to the calibre
of resource persons invited, display of architects’ works and the exposition of
products and services by reputable companies, this year’s programme was taken a
notch higher and one can daresay that this edition was a runaway success.
At the programme which was held
at the prestigious Expo Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites, the Association of
Consulting Architects Nigeria was ably represented at the various activities lined
up for the four day event from May 6th – 9th 2015. A
major highlight of the programme was the series of workshop/ Master Classes headlined
by architectural heavyweights from both within and outside the country. Expectedly,
ACANigeria’s impact was felt with some of its members forming the bulk of
resource persons for the seminars which spanned three days.

A recurrent interesting feature and
final activity of the Lagos Architects Programme is the organised tour to
places of architectural interest. This year’s itinerary included Eko Atlantic
City where the tour group was welcomed by project developers, South Energx Ltd
with presentations of the project and then taken on a quick bus tour of some sections
of the project site. Paulo Zilli, of Zaha Hadid Architects was spotted at the Eko
Atlantic City office. Who knows, one or more of their designs may be dotting the
City’s landscape in the future.
CCP Place was the next stop where
the Principal Partner of the firm and ACANigeria’s President, Arc. Tayo
Babalakin was at hand to receive the group with other staff of the firm and
gave a guided tour of the purpose built office. A quick interactive was held in
the firm’s expansive conference room.
On the itinerary thereafter was
the ATO Architects Office Building where the group was also warmly received by
Arc. Bassey Ekaete-Fujah, Executive Secretary ACANigeria and partner of the
firm and Arc. Ugo Chris-Aluta. The tour was rounded off with a whistle stop at
the NIA Lagos Chapter Office Building.
